So as we move into the second half of summer. I have to look back on what we have accomplished this year, and also look forward to my goals moving on. When we started this adventure back in January, we had plans to use this year as a building block for what we wanted to accomplish. I have to admit, I have fallen in love with the business aspect of photography in addition to the art form. We have met some amazing new people, as well as reconnected with old friends that we haven’t seen in a while. Most of all, it has given Jen and I something that we can grow together. Throughout the first half of this year we have focused on the wonderful task of getting our new website up and running, and we have also made changes to our business plan, allowing us better opportunities to share our work with others. We have had the opportunities to capture some of the most memorable times in your lives, and truthfully, that is what makes this profession so enjoyable. The ability to freeze a moment in time, so that years from now you can look back on it and instantly relive that period in your life is, in our opinion, what good photography is all about. Truthfully, this is too enjoyable for us to be deemed a job. Someone once told me “If you pick a job you love you will never have to work another day in your life.” I know a lot of you are thinking, get to the point Michael! The truth is, this blog was meant to be a thank you to everyone who has helped us this year. There have been MANY of you as well. It means a lot to us that you trust us enough to recommend us to your friends and family. Without all of you, we wouldn’t have gotten off to this good of a start. So now I want to give you a little bit of whats in store for the rest of the year!
- Our first day of our Summer Cutest Couple Contest was AMAZING, again I have to recognize Ashley Shively Photography for the great idea. There have been so many awesome participants. We absolutely cannot wait to shoot the winning couple!….wait that sounded bad. We absolutely cannot wait to photograph the winning couple! …thats better.
- We are looking to expand our wedding portfolio, and in doing so we are going to offer 2 weddings for the rest of 2012 for an AMAZING deal. I mean really amazing, as in almost free amazing. If you know a couple that you think would look great in our portfolio, please recommend them to us so that we can talk to them about their wedding plans. Alternatively, we may do another contest for 100% free wedding photography, although it will most likely be longer than 10 days.
- This year we are also going to focus on high school seniors. We really enjoyed working with Shelby and Mason last week and would love to work with more wonderful people like them. (What can I say, I am a kid at heart!)
- We are going to work with professional make-up artist Barby Calvo to further expand our portfolio with fashion-type portraits with female and male models, similar to our shoot with Aygul Ovesliyeva. I have been asking Jen to model for me, but she is resisting. I will win that quarrel eventually. If you know models looking to get some portfolio work done, send them our way as well.
Furthermore, as of right now, we have priced all of our “Signature Series,” prints, and digital files equally with our regular images. The only difference is that our Signature Series prints are only available in limited sizes. The reason for the border on the images is that it allows us to keep the whole image in tact when cropping for an 8 x 10 or 11 x 14. Our camera shoots at a crop ratio of 4 x 6, therefore the most common print sizes are actually smaller than what the camera produces, meaning we have to crop some of the image off to get the desired size. The border on the images eliminates the need for that. If you order prints from us, and you would rather it not have a border, just let us know and we can make it for you.
